The AP® Statistics course is undergoing one of the most significant redesigns in its history. With a new five-unit structure, revised Statistical Practices, updated terminology, and major changes to the AP® Exam, teachers are preparing for meaningful instructional shifts in 2026–27. Don’t worry — BFW has you covered.
In this four-part webinar series, veteran AP® statistics educators, trusted authors, and longtime AP® Leaders Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor provide clear, practical guidance on what the redesigned Course and Exam Description (CED) means for your classroom. You’ll gain a structured overview of the course and exam changes, a deep dive into the new free-response task models and scoring expectations, and guidance on teaching investigative questions and strengthening the statistical problem-solving process. The series also includes a dedicated session on maximizing success with NEW The Practice of Statistics, 8th Edition — the first and only program written specifically for the new CED — along with support for teachers using TPS 7e or earlier editions.
After viewing Webinars 1–3, submit your questions through this short survey, and we’ll address them in the final webinar of the series. Whether you’re adopting new materials or continuing with your current program, this series is designed to help you teach the redesigned AP® Statistics course with clarity, structure, and confidence.

Part One of Two: A clear, structured overview of what’s changing — and what it means for your classroom.
The AP® Statistics course is undergoing a major redesign beginning in the 2026–27 school year, with the first revised exam administered in May 2027. In this foundational session of our webinar series, Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor provide a clear, structured overview of the most important changes to both the course and the exam so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
You’ll learn about the shift from nine units to a streamlined five-unit structure, major content deletions and relocations, the expanded emphasis on the Statistical Problem-Solving Process and revised Statistical Practices and Skills, and the introduction of investigative questions. We’ll also examine updates to terminology and learning objectives, changes to the multiple-choice and free-response sections of the AP® Exam, and key considerations within Units 1 through 5.
Rather than simply listing what’s been added or removed, this session explains how the redesigned Course and Exam Description (CED) is organized and what these changes mean for pacing, assessment, and instructional planning. This webinar lays the foundation for Webinar 2, where we’ll take a deeper dive into the new free-response task models and scoring guidelines.
If you have any questions after watching, submit them here, and Daren and Josh will address them in Webinar 4 of the series.
Part Two of Two: A detailed look at the newly released FRQ task models and scoring expectations.
Webinar coming soon. We’ll email you when it’s ready — but check back on this landing page during the first week of March for early access.
Now that the revised AP® Statistics Course and Exam Description (CED) has been released, it’s time to take a closer look at what matters most for student performance: the new free-response questions and scoring guidelines.
In this second session of the series, Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor unpack the newly published task models, bolded task verbs, and 10-point analytic scoring system that will shape the redesigned AP® Exam. Drawing on decades of experience as AP® Readers, Table Leaders, and Exam Leaders, they explain how the structure of free-response questions has changed — and what those changes mean for classroom instruction and student preparation.
You’ll gain clarity on the four new FRQ task models, how bolded task verbs guide student responses, the shift from holistic 4-point scoring to 10-point analytic scoring, and what types of responses will (and won’t) earn credit under the new guidelines. This session builds directly on Webinar 1 and provides the practical insight teachers need to align instruction with the new exam format.

A closer look at the only AP® Statistics program written specifically for the new CED.
After exploring the redesigned AP® Statistics Course and Exam Description and unpacking the new free-response task models, this session turns to implementation.
In this third webinar of the series, Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor showcase how The Practice of Statistics, 8th Edition was developed specifically to align with the redesigned course and exam. You’ll see how the program’s structure mirrors the new five-unit framework, supports the Statistical Problem-Solving Process, and intentionally develops the revised Statistical Practices and Skills.
This session examines how TPS 8e aligns with AP® Statistics units and topics, integrates seamlessly with AP Classroom, and reflects thoughtful pedagogical decisions designed to promote deeper conceptual understanding. You’ll also see how the program prepares students for the redesigned free-response and multiple-choice sections, provides built-in support for investigative questions, and includes robust student resources such as worked examples, guided practice, and review tools - and NEW lesson handouts! In addition, Daren and Josh will highlight the Achieve platform for TPS 8e, including online homework, assessments, analytics, and digital flexibility (like an embedded Desmos calculator) that support both teachers and students.
Rather than simply adapting to the new CED, TPS 8e was written from the ground up to support it. This session demonstrates how the program’s structure, content, and digital ecosystem work together to maximize student confidence and exam success.
If you have any questions after watching, submit them here, and Daren and Josh will address them in Webinar 4 of the series.

In this final session of the series, Daren Starnes and Josh Tabor focus on practical guidance and ongoing support for teachers preparing to teach the redesigned AP® Statistics course. If you are currently using TPS 7e — or even an earlier edition — this webinar is designed to reassure you and outline the resources available to help you teach confidently under the new framework.
You’ll learn how existing TPS programs align with the redesigned Course and Exam Description, what updated pacing and support materials will be available, and how to prepare students for the revised exam structure using the resources you already know and trust.
