In this session, CTE leader Alexa Schlechter will explore how AP® Business can fit within Business and Marketing CTE pathways as schools work to better align college readiness and career preparation.

Participants will learn about:
  • Key trends in the current CTE landscape and how career pathways and programs of study are structured
  • Where AP® Business and AP® Career Kickstart fit within a business pathway, including the value of college credit and credentials for students
  • The instructional alignment between CTE and AP® Business, including project based learning, and strategies for connecting CTE leaders, counselors, and AP® coordinators
The session will conclude with time for live Q&A.

Alexa Schlechter

Alexa Schlechter is a national leader in career and technical education (CTE) with more than 20 years of experience as a teacher, school leader, and strategist working at the intersection of education, workforce, and opportunity. She most recently served as CTE Director for the AP® Program at College Board, where she helped launch and scale the AP® Career Kickstart initiative, partnering with states and districts across the country to expand access to rigorous, career-connected learning.
 
Earlier in her career, Alexa served as Assistant Principal and CTE Pathway Director at Denver South High School, where she designed and built career pathways that connected academic learning with real-world skills and workforce opportunities. Her work is driven by a deep belief that high-quality career education is one of the most powerful tools we have to close opportunity gaps, break cycles of poverty, and ensure every student has access to meaningful pathways after high school.
